Kids Elementary - 5 to 7 yrs
The central focus of this class is to teach movement in a fun way to appeal to the kids imagination and help them find ways to expressing it in dance. The class focuses on learning and developing basic movement skills through gestures, actions and motor skills. The above is taught through imagery and movement motivated fun games. The kids are taught a dance choreography in small units of movement phrases that are strung together.
Our goals for this age group are
- To develop a sense of musicality
- Basic movement skills to develop coordination
- Learning to work within a group environment
- Experience of informal, studio performances
- They are featured on stage for the annual production along with an advanced student who is a mentor to the kids
Juniors Intermediate/Advanced 8 - 10 years
The Intermediate & Advanced level class introduces the student to work with complex dance combinations with complex rhythmic and spatial patterns, including facial expressions , an integral part of Bollywood fusion dance style, rooted in the genre of Musical theatre. We focus on developing the following skills in the body such as good posture, alignment, strength, flexibility and coordination, alongside listening and obsevation skills to develop focus and clarity.
Gaining self-confidence is an important aspect and goal of this level. At this level we introduce the students to develop a practical understanding in practice of Rhythmic and Spatial variations in dance choreography.
The student is introduced to other dance styles- contemporary and Hip Hop through choreography covered in the term. Promotions to higher level classes are based on instructor approval.
Teens 13+ Elementary/Intermediate
Prerequisites: None - Open to all new and continuing basic students.
